Religious Education

Religious Education is a core subject which is central to the life of Our Catholic school. We support every member of our community in their journey in faith. We strive to create an environment which reflects Gospel values, Christian ethos and sense of community in everything we do.
In Religious Education, we study The mystery of God, as discovered through reading the Bible and particularly through the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. We wholeheartedly promote the teachings of the Church and celebrate the lives of the Saints. We journey through the Sacraments and examine the relationship between faith and life, equipping our children for their own journeys in faith during, and beyond, their time at school. We provide a safe, respectful and nurturing environment where the uniqueness of every individual is celebrated as created in God’s own image and where learning and appreciation of other faiths is promoted.
The Religious Education Curriculum
To Know You More Clearly – Catholic Religious Education
As a Catholic school, Religious Education is a core subject and is allocated 10% of curriculum time. We follow the national framework for Catholic schools To Know You More Clearly. This Catholic Religious Education Directory guides the teaching of Religious Education.
The curriculum helps children to develop a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith, grow in their relationship with God and discover how to live out Gospel values in their daily lives. Through exploring Scripture, prayer, the teachings of the Church and the lives of the saints, children are encouraged to ask questions, reflect on their beliefs and develop a greater understanding of themselves and others.
At the heart of To Know You More Clearly is the desire to help every child grow in faith, hope and love, enabling them to know God more clearly, love Him more dearly and follow Him more nearly.
To Know You More Clearly also includes learning through dialogue and encounter. Children are encouraged to listen respectfully to different viewpoints, ask thoughtful questions and explore the beliefs and practices of other religions and worldviews. Through developing understanding, respect and compassion, pupils learn to appreciate the diversity of our world and recognise the importance of living peacefully alongside others.
Year 6 currently continue to use the previous RE Programme Come and See and will introduce To Know You More Clearly in Autumn Term 2 2026.
