Homework
Homework @ St Patrick’s
At St Patrick’s, we have carefully considered the purpose and impact of homework on children’s learning and wellbeing. Research evidence, including the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) Teaching and Learning Toolkit, suggests that homework in primary schools has limited impact on improving academic outcomes. We therefore believe that children’s time at home is best spent with their families, engaging in extra-curricular activities, pursuing hobbies, playing sports, and exploring the wider world.
We want our children to grow into curious, well-rounded individuals, and we recognise that life experiences beyond school are an important part of this.
However, we also acknowledge that some key skills benefit from regular practice outside the classroom. Therefore, we ask that children:
-
Read at home as often as possible, ideally daily, with or to an adult.
-
Practise times tables regularly to support fluency in mathematics.
- Tapestry – please share anything that your child is doing outside of school so we can celebrate with them!
We believe this balanced approach encourages children to develop lifelong learning habits while also protecting their time for family life and broader experiences.
